Seafarer 700

Can anyone help me to find either an LCD for a UK manufactured Seafarer depthsounder 700 or the complete cockpit repeater unit [reads in metres].It was installed in 1982 and I have replaced the LCD once already but they are not now aval as the transponders have been changed to 200Kcs rather than the original 150 Kcs.It is part of a Hornet instrument network.

Sorry, I have a Seafarer III that is the even older cathode ring model (still works), but I had no idea they stayed in business until the '80s.

150 KHz transponders should be available. Maybe you should try wiring the connector from the old transducer to one.

LCDs should be available at hobby shops or electronic surplus places. Short of that, try eBay.

Many thanks for your recent reply but regretably I don't think you can help.
I am after the Liquid Crystal Display slip that is in the cockpit repeater of the Seafarer 700.The letters have gone black [sunshine?] and the item is now out of production as the new units work off 200kcs and not 150 kcs.The whole set up is part of a Hornet instrument package and everything else works but the depth!!
Has anyone else any ideas? A new repeater stuck away in someone's
store or a new "slip" in old stock?

Have you taken a close look at the display. If the letters have gone black, it could be due to the polarizing film over the display shifting. If that is the case, it might be as simple as replacing the polarizing film. Take a look at the display while wearing polarized glasses, and rotate the angle of the glasses and see if there is any change. If there is and the numbers start to appear at one angle, then you might just need to change the film out.

Hi, I have one of these myself on my new to me boat. I've hooked it up but wherever I am, I am in 1 foot of water regardless of the setting.

Do you by any chance have a manual or insights?

I have a Seafarer 700 and have interfaced it with a NASA Clipper Echosounder repeater, has worked perfectly for the last 5 years, matches my NASA wind / log and GPS instruments. If only NASA made a 4 unit housing, have had to use 2x 2 unit housings.

Have a problem with the depth alarm and am in the process of fitting an extenal buzzer and came across this article!
