Harness Warning
To all—
I just thought I'd mention this.
Many of us sailors buy PFDs with harnesses. What the store doesn't usually mention, and often the packaging doesn't mention it very prominently is that many PFDs with harnesses have a minimum height requirement for the harness to be safe to wear. Many of the store employees don't even realize that is a factor.
The West Marine harness-equipped PFDs generally require you to be at least 5' 5" tall for them to be worn safely.
This is due to the harness length and whether it will be above or below the bottom end of the sternum when worn. A harness should not be worn if it is below the bottom end of the sternum, since it will be pressing on floating ribs in a fall and that can cause severe internal injuries.
If you're a vertically challenged sailor, like myself, I would highly recommend you check whatever harness you normally use and make sure it is safe for you to be using it.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
