I would wire the switch to be independent of the bus bar or anything else. I would pull directly from the bank, fused. That would go to a switch at the panel with a on/off/auto. That would feed the bilge pump. Simple installation.

Thanks, Dog. I suspected I was missing something. It doesn't have to be a design weakness if the owner is willing to install a seperate manually operated electric pump but, with two already......

Thanks so much for all the advice. I will pick one and go for it. I am leaning towrds Cruising dad's versions.

I think I will buy the switch and give it a try. My first rewire on any boat.

And add an event counter so you will know how many times the pump has been activated since the last time you checked. Something like:
