$7,500.00 for a new Yanmar???

I was at marina ships store just for ha ha's I asked him for a quote on the new yanmar 3 cyl, duh! really? "oh and the 2 cyl is about the same price"
what have some of you really paid for a engine delivered? Oh by the way my universal 5416 is running great. really no need to change it out.

Sounds about right. What did you think they cost?

JohnRPollard 07-09-2008 08:19 AM

That sounds about right for one of the little 3-cylinders, like the 3YM20. The bigger 3-cylinders go up from there. Also, did that include the transmission?

deniseO30 07-09-2008 08:27 AM

amazing numbers. I really didn't think they were that high. 5k was in my mind however. one would really really really want to have a new engine at that price imo. Most likely I'd look for another boat with a new engine already installed. but who knows. I may come into 8k tomorrow! (not)

ps: yes trans and panel. complete set up deliverd.

How much was the quote for installation?

We are all nervously asking these sorts of questions.....

Before you take the leap for a Yanmar, look into Phasor engines. They are based on Kubota engines, and will probably run forever.

For what it's worth, we have a Phasor 8KW generator and it has not caused us a lick of trouble in nearly five years since we installed it new to replace the old Mase POS.

Interesting...I have a 43 hp out of a bobcat I am saving for ...well who knows...always ran like a top...figured Id give it a try someday

Kubota is a good unit. Beta Marine use them also.

Actually my universal 5416 is kubota based too. I still don't know why we can't get short and long blocks like they do in the auto engine biz. these small diesels are so small! but like diamonds they seem to priced almost as high!
