Valve Adjustment Tool

I'm looking for a source for a valve adjustment tool. I saw a mechanic use one. It's basically a nut driver with a screwdriver in the middle. It allows to you more easily hold the jamb nut while you adjust the adjustment screw, then you can tighten the nut without changing the screw position. Does anyone know where I can get such a tool?

I think if you got your girlfriend or wife to hold the screwdriver while you held the spanner you will find that she might take to things mechanical as well as things nautanical.

When I my brother and I were kids, my dad used to teach us how to fix engines by helping him do stuff such as valve adjustments, oil changes, etc. Great way to bond. Can't wait till my little fellow is old enough.

Cheers

Is this what you mean?

Amazon.com: Astro Pneumatic (AST7819) Universal Valve Adjustment Tool Set: Automotive

or

Amazon.com: Schley Products, Inc (SCH88950) 10mm Jam Nut Valve Adjustment Tool: Home Improvement

I think you'll find that the tool is application specific in that different motors will have different size retaining nuts. Your best source may be the engine manufacturer. The may sell it as a "special" tool. If you're in Maryland, you may want to try Maryland Metrics MARYLAND METRICS 'HOME PAGE' Thay have a lot of specialty tools.

I agree with Rockter..

The only reason your mechanic had one is they are
#1) hit hard by tool salesmen to have every tool on his truck..and
#2 )Mechanics are like us... we want every gadget for out boat too.

You dont need one for as often as you will be adjusting valves...Unless you just WANT one... Then I tell my wife its a need..

cnc33voodoo - your link didn't work for me

Quickstep192 - you nailed it thank you

I know this tool is not required for the job, but if you are trying to be precise about the valve adjustment this tool makes it easier.

Anything that makes a tedious job easier to do AND provides an excuse to buy a tool is a win-win to me!
