So my 23 foot boat came with a ballooner, clearly it hanks to the forestay. The questions are 1. is it only good for reaching? 2. is it only for light air?? The former owner never used it.
Traditionally a ballooner was simply another word for a spinacker. Its sounds like you have some kind of hybred, and, yes, it would be best used for reaching or running when used with a whisker pole.
