Blue Tape

Well I was redoing all of my brightwork which looks great BTW but I taped the exterior peices with blue thick painters tape and it is stuck! I took off the tape in the front by scraping it and it took forever, pissed me off, and cause many beers to be drank (which was a brightspot in the 5 hours).

Now I need to take the rest off and Ive heard a few thing that work like a charm.

I tried goo-be-gone, and although it smells nice I still have to scrap alot.

Heard that WD40 works, anyone tried this? It should clean off the deck without staining correct?

Any other tricks that you might know please help, im stuck here!

I had the same issue, found out the hard way NOT to use the regular 3-M blue tape but use the 3-M 2080 tape.

3M - Scotch 2080 Blue Painter's Tape

Had to use the 3-M adhesive remover to get the goo off, nasty stuff, but it seems to do better than the other solvents I tried.

Hey guys. How long did you leave it on? it shouldn't be left more than a few days.

WD 40 is great for lots of things. I use it to clean up 5200 and lots of other things. I wouldn't doubt that it would be good for removing tape residue but I have no idea it it would damage the finish.

I've used lighter fluid for small area's works, no staining, but I'd suggest that you not smoke.

I'd second the 3M 2080 tape that Solare recommends. Good stuff, even if left on for long periods of time, even if the sun bakes it.

Use a plastic razor blade to scrape stuck on tape, safe on gel coat.

Lighter fluid (naphtha), Goof-off, brush cleaner (not to be confused with mineral spirits), or mineral spirits. All should work. Test a spot to make sure whatever doesn't also take up the boot-stripe.

PS - blue tape and masking tape shouldn't be left on for more than three days or so in the sun. There are longer time versions if you think you'll need them.

I like gooed ole eletrical tape instead of masking tape.

Cleaner edge and no bleed through.

Goes around curves good.

Does not stick to project.

Can leave on for weeks inthe sun and if the glue sticks it comes off easy.

Good to seal the bottom of a hole before pouring in epoxie.

Good to seal open holes on deck while equipment is off.

Yeah its been on there for a few months, baking in the sun of corse. I picked up some sticker removing spray and also some WD40 and a new plastic putty knive. I think with all of that plus the goo-be-gone I think i can get this crap off and learn my leason.

THEY say that they're all the same but I like --GOOF OFF best.

A terry cloth seems to work best.
