Treating Engine Bolts

Hi All,

Has anyone tried using Pipe Joint Compound (specs below) on bolts into the engine (e.g., to attach the exhaust elbow) to enable easy removal later on. Someone mentioned this to me as an option to using Never Seez, but it seemed a good idea to get some expert opinion here before trying.

Thanks...

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION: Oatey Great White® Pipe Joint Compound with Teflon® is a white colored, non-separating thread sealant compound designed to seal threaded connections against leakage due to internal pressure. This compound permits a tighter assembly with lower torque, secure permanent sealing of all threaded connections and allows for easy
disassembly without stripping or damaging threads.

PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
Pressure Rating
Liquids 10,000 psi @ -50° F to 500° F
Gases 3,000 psi @ -50° F to 400° F
Required Dry Time Up to 125 psi, no wait
Over 125 psi, 4 hours
Appearance White Paste
Shelf Life 2 years from manufacture date

The diesel engine course that I took a number of years ago recommended using Never-Seez regular grade when reassembling components.
