TJK-

Damprid's big dehumidifier canister last 60 days... and costs $20. You need three of them per season or so. That's $60 buck...so in FOUR seasons, you've paid for the vents.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I'm not debating the merits of solar vents.
I think they are a great idea. I don't think I have the deck space where I want to place the vents. Making two large diameter holes in the deck is not something I take lightly either just another place for water intrusion into the core. I know you can mount them right in your hatch covers, I might have to go that route. For now I will keep using the stuff, and we like the hanging bags better than the tubs, we find them easier to use.

farmboy is on a distinguished road
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I think solar vents are the way to go, but I'm not yet sure where we would mount them. I may use the DampRid for the near future. The challenge with our boat is that the deck layout was done by the last long term owner, and the more we sail the less we like it. We need to come up with an overall strategy for our deck, do it once and do it right. The other problem is that our deck is very small, and most horizontal surfaces get stepped on. Solar vents don't look so economical if a 225 pound oaf (me) steps on them.
