depends on brand, age, material, whether they're self tailing or not, etc.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Don't know the age, may be around 10 to 20 years, chrome, Harken, I think. My wife found them at a flea market in North Carolina and mostly guy will be there tomorrow. He is not a sailor, just pulled out of an estate sale.

Given that you can get new Harken 16 winches are about $400... if you can get the two winches for $175-250 for the pair, that would be a really good deal. Anything over $300 for the pair is a bit high IMHO, given their age.
Good luck. Chances are pretty good that an estate sale guy might not know what they're worth and you'll be able to talk him into selling them for a really good price.

Thanks, I don't want to take advantage of him, but I think I offer $150 each.
Thanks SD for your advice.

Remember to rotate the drums... if the drums rotate easily and you can hear the pawls clicking into place with a crisp click, the guts are probably in pretty good shape.
If the drums are stiff and don't want to turn, the winches may have an internal corrosion problem. If the pawls don't click...they might have a corrosion problem or need a good clean/lube/adjust.
If the drums turn easily but feel gritty...the bearings probably got sand in them. This means, they're probably going to need a new set of bearings at a minimum, and possible a new spindle.
I hope that helps
