Thanks everyone for the great advice. I've been fulfilling family (cruising) expectations and haven't had a good chance to reply until now.
I tried disconnecting the outlet hose from the pump and varying the tank selector. I found that there is an air leak in one of the four inlet lines. My previous combinations of tank choices either did not isolate away from that tank or didn't run for long enough to get the air lock out (or the air lock -- as Speciald mentioned -- just couldn't get fixed without letting the pump run with no outlet pressure).
When I disconnected the outlet hose and *watched it* carefully while switching tanks and waiting, the problem suddenly revealed itself. -- It was key to disconnect the outlet hose.
Sure enough, I just checked it now. A normally operating system started to sputter within 20 seconds after switching to the air-leaky tank (at least I assume that's the problem for now, since that tank was filled recently).
Not sure why the timing of the air-leak problem showed up after I filled all the tanks. It might be a coincidence, but I know I didn't switch anything or change anything, just filled the tanks.
In any case, thanks again for the great advice. Next steps is to optimize everything by finding the air leak, applying Labatt's advice and check the screens on the faucets, and trying T37Chief's method of filling via inspection port.
