Hey,

I have a serious question(s). As some of you already know, I sailed my Rawson 30 from La Paz to Puerto Vallarta a couple of months ago and placed her in the charter business. Well the guy who was running the boat, put another skipper on her and supposedly tore the transmission out. The motor is a Westerbeke/Universal M 25, with only 500 hours on it. When I delivered the boat to PV, I rigged a restrictor on the throttle cable so the motor couldn't be over revved. The new motor and drive was installed several months before I bought the boat in So. Cal. but I don't know by whom. So I don't know who the master distributor (required by Westerbeke) is. I've attempted to contact Westerbeke by phone but cannot get them to return calls. Does anyone know what the warranty is on their products? And if so, how do you get Westerbeke to respond?

I've just been having problems with my own Westerbeke transmission. I went on their web site, emailed help-at-westerbeke-dot-com and had a reply the same day (several back and forth emails the same day in fact). They put me in touch with a local guy, and now we are arranging a replacement date.

You can also search on their web site directly for local agents.

As for warranty - I can't speak for yours, but mine was new in 2007 and warranty expires 2012 - so 5 years.

If you have the serial number, Westerbeke should be able to confirm the age (and other details) of the engine.
