Painting PVC

My pvc cowl vents are looking pretty rough despite a good cleaning. Can they be painted and if so with what product? Will it last?

I used some of the new spray paint for Plastic, I think Krylon makes it.

I was painting some PVC pipe and it seem to work well and has held up over the years.

If a man must be obsessed by something, I suppose a boat is as good as anything, perhaps better than most. A small sailing craft is not only beautiful, it is seductive and full of strange promise and the hint of trouble.

Try letting them soak in a bucket of bleach/water overnight, does wonders.

I tried the bleach treatment on my instrument covers -- they cleaned up but became brittle and cracked within a year. Try Awesome! cleaner from the Dollar Store -- it does wonders on fenders.

I have a dollar general store near by and they don't carry Awesome.

Painting PVC

I have cleaned them well and what's left of the white coating came out nice but there are patches where the white coating has worn off. I am left with painting or replacing.

I just made a man-overboard-pole out of PVC, as described in the book, "Why Didn't I Think Of That?". Lots of good boat improvement info. Anyway, I used the Krylon plastic paint on it and so far it seems to be holding up well. Good prep is very important. Wet sand and use lacquer thinner before painting. Good luck.
