Catalina 25 swing keel leak?

I've begun to notice some water spalshing up through where the keel cable goes down through the cable sleeve, behind the winch. Although we've never had this happen in the past, the keel hung up on the trailer when we launched this summer and had to be cranked up(it stayed up fine) Although I didn't hear it happen, it must have partially fallen on to the trailer. If this is indeed the source of the problem, what should I be looking at, and what may be involved with a repair?

I'm not familiar with the Catalina 25 but I'm wondering that if you keep the keel up while trailering if something did not get strained going over the road. It's generally a good policy to lower the keel onto the bed of the trailer while trailering to relieve the strain on the cable and the winch load bearing points. Having said that, the first place to check is usually the pivot bolt.

The keel does rest in a cradle when the boat is on the trailer... so there was no pressure on the cable or winch until the boat began to float as it came off the trailer.

It's normal for swing keel Catalina 25s to erupt water up the keel cable tube when using the motor in reverse. Most people plug the tube by stuffing something in it.

My Mac cable runs through a rubber hose that isw just below the wench drum so that the water level must get that high to enter the boat.

Maybee you have the same and it was damaged the last time you launched and is now allowing water in at a lower level??

Some people stuff a sponge in this hose to keep down splashing in some instances.
