Leaking Impeller housing

i replaced the raw water impeller and gasket yesterday on my atomic 4. before replacing i noticed it was leaking near the bottom screw of the faceplate. i removed the plate and noticed the gasket was all torn and figured that was the problem. installed new impeller and new gasket. still have a leak in the same spot. the screws are fully tightened. the gasket is paper thin so when you tighten the screws i can't see it compressing the gasket to help with the leakage. do you think it would help to double up the gasket?

You can always put in thicker or more gaskets. The problem is probably that the gasket facing metal on the pump is not smooth. Did you clean the surfaces well when replacing the gasket? You need to be careful not to use sharp objects to clean the metal as you can gouge the metal and cause problems. Try using some very fine sandpaper (600 grit).

Use some sealing compound. Hermetite is a good one, here in the UK.
