diesel tachometer diesel

I am interested in adding a digital tachometer to my 32 HP Universal 5432 similar to Westerbeke M40. I wanted to avoid using the third wire alternator output as it does not compensate for the pully slip. Right now I think I would pick the Diesel Tach from Tiny-Tech see
http://www.tinytach.com/diesel.html It is not real pretty for a sailboat, but it is only $65 and includes an hour meter. Have any of you used this on your diesel injector line.
