Just leaking

Hello all, if you recall I am in the process of getting my Westerbeke L25 motor going again. First, I had a thread on the starter motor and finally got the orignal rebuilt for a mere 600.00 Next, the fuel tank was swimming with bugs and who knows what else so, drained and cleaned and filled with fresh diesel. Changed both the racor and fuel filter on motor. Bleed the entire fuel system and now she starts and sounds good only, I now have a fuel leak well, not a drip but a good stream. Took awhile to narrow down where it was comming from but last night I found it. The problem and question I have is there is what looks like a bleeder bolt, I loosend this bolt during the bleed process and found it to be what looks like a plug, no treads just smooth metal and about the size of a penny around, and about a half of an inch long. I looked at the manual I have and it just show a bolt head on top. Oh this bolt is on top on the injector pump. This is not a high pressure part of the system. I was wondering if there is supposed to be an o ring or something to keep this from leaking? I did not see one when I removed it. I am very leary of using any type of gasket maker in the fuel system or is this what I need to do. Hope to get some insite and I know I need a pic will try this weekend.

Some pics of plug

Here is some pics. Looks like the ring around should have had an o ring however, I don't see how it would fit with the tolerences it's a tight fit without one. Also I talked to the po yesterday and he said there has been a slight fuel leak, this could have been the problem. It also looks like some kind of grey substance was used to seal it before. Any help please if I don't get to go sailing soon they will put me in a rubber room and give me coloring books

Timebandit, no threads it's smooth

IN the detail photo, post #2 - what actual part number is it.

Looks like it should be gasketed in - the two flanges go in, and a twist seats it.

Hello, GBurton yes I do. Chuckles, I can't see the part listed in the manual I have on board or the one online, just shows a nut on top I could be wrong but, I just don't see it in the diagram. The gasket idea sounds good but, with no part number do you think a home made gasket would do it? Also looking close I can see some type of grey material that looks like some type of gasket sealer maybe that's what somebody used to seal it in the past. Still stumped on what to do that will hold up. I don't want this thing getting loose while underway!

Dear Leaky,

I am not famiiar with your boat or motor, but looking at the picture, I'd say that the bolt is still in the 'plug' and that the "plug" has broken out of the sheetmetal. What do you think?

Grab that plug in some soft jaws and try to turn the hex head out of it.

I'm with oldchief.

It looks like a press in bung with a screw out plug that has come loose.

Maybe for a use on some other aplication or a aid to manufacturing or a bleeder.

You can try to remove the bolt and then clean the bung with acetone and its hole and use J B weld and install. Wait 24 hours before placint in service.

You can try loctite green for press fits but I think you will have a leak.

Okay, now I'm starting to see what's going on. I think Oldchief and Timebandit are right. I will do as instructed with the JB Weld and let you know. Thanks again all. Blu
