Energo-Tec

Has anyone tried Energo Tec AC/DC generator? It is an standard alternator that replaced the one on the diesel engine and has an electronic box. It produces upto 4KW of AC power to operate perhaps marine aircon, washing machine etc... ENERGO-TEC 220V POWER SUPPLY
essentially its making the onboard diesel engine as generator.

Way to big an alternator for a standard marine diesel. Quick way to lose your bearings unless a custom mounts was designed with dual belts and pillow block to cut the side loading.
Straight conversion would make 4kw about 6 hp and with the losses involved you's probably be looking at 10HP used.
I think this system is probably designed for much larger marine engines.

Oh, didn't realise that it works out to equivalent of >333amp on 12V. That's a pretty heavy load.
Cam, thanks for pointing it out.

Too Much!

Too much of a load on your engine, too much money at $2500! You can find good used 4-5kw diesel gensets in that price range.

Talking Snake oil?

I guess I would like more data about their "solution."

The alternator they show in their diagrams is (or looks exactly like) a standard GM/Delco alternator and these typically have an output between 50 and 90 AMPS (police special version). Given that the alternator should fit on any marine diesel (thus it cannot be oversized more than 25%), it would have to be way oversized to put out their rated current (as Cam said). So I ask myself, what are they doing to achieve this? Alternators typically put out something higher than 15V and are regulated to 13.8V. So, the output voltage of the alternator does not appear to be the answer. Is it possible they are generating multiphase power and then somehow summing it, producing a DC current load?

If I were going to pursue their solution and without calling it "snake oil", I would want a significantly better technical explanation than is on their website.
