AIS E-80 issue
I've installed a Smart Radio SR-161 AIS receiver to a Raymarine E-80 with reasonable success...sort of.
The SR's indicator lights say it's receiving data and transferring same to the E-80, and the display does indeed show the AIS icon in the corner along with GPS position, so I assume the baud rates are appropriate (38.4K & SeaTalk). There's only one thing AIS targets.
Any suggestions?

Are you coming through the high speed bus or NEMA? If the high speed bus, it should be plug and play. If NEMA, you have to reprogram the baud rate on the receiver (I did this by hooking up my lap-top to the receiver). Another possibility is you already have a “talker” on the NEMA bus and it is interfering with the receiver’s sentences. You may need a multiplexer then.

You have to change in the E-80 setup - the default baud rate for NMEA in - it has to be 38, by default it is 28 kbaud or something. Once that is done then you also need to turn AIS display on (again Page Options I think) and that will do it...AIS is not enabled by default on the E-80 or any of the display pages...

Thanks, but I've done all that...the AIS icon's presence should be the indicator that all's well in the data rate department. Depth and GPS positional data are SeaTalk connected and display as they should, AIS is indeed NEMA 0183 @ 38.4kb.
