Autohelm 800

hi, I'm looking to install a autohelm on my 1983 C@C 24. The autohelm 800 I have needs alot of fabricating to install. Installing it on the seat near the tiller leaves me with a 6.5 inch bracket to meet the tiller. I think that would be to much stress on the tiller and wouldn't hold. Any ideas or anyone have experience installing this model on this type of sailboat.
