Yes, you can install it... but remember to remove the core material for at least 1/2-3/4" around the edge of the hatch cutout and to drill the fastener holes oversized and pot them with thickened epoxy.
As for whether it should open aft, with the hinges forward, or open forward with the hinges aft... it depends... If it was aft-opening, it would tend to act to pull air from the boat, and that is probably better than bringing air into the boat, considering that it is located in the head compartment.  Also, that would be safer if the deck gets swept by green water.
Ask yourself, do you really want air coming through the hatch and spreading whatever odors may be lingering in the head compartment around the rest of the boat???
