New to the community and sailing! Recently someone gave me a 12 ft. boat, no idea of the manufacturer, but it is old. It is in decent shape but the centerboard/daggerboard is missing. I'm attaching a picture. Where can I find a replacement? I live in central NC and there aren't many sailboat places near me.
Suddenly I want a creamsicle!!
Even if you ID the boat and find a class the simple and fast thing would be a piece of marine plywood shaped and glassed
More clues please
I can't identify it from the picture - but maybe someone else here can. Have you checked the transom for any Hull Identification Number?
You say it is old, do you have a rough estimate of age?
Do you have the sails? Do they have any insignia?
Generally speaking, it can be tough to get a new daggerboard for an old boat. You really need to identify the boat type first to be able to search for a new board. Once we get to the bottom of what type of boat it is you will probably find yourself reduced to four options:
1. If lucky, the boat maker is still around and can supply you with a replacement
2. A 3rd party makes aftermarket boards for your boat and you can get one
3. You find a used daggerboard on the market
4. You get either the plans for the daggerboard or borrow one from a sister boat and build the replacement yourself.
