Charts... Mexico Cruising

For those of you that have cruised Mexico, where did you get your charts?
I'm having a hard time to find either electronic or paper charts for Mexico's west coast.
I spoke with de Navy here and they can sell copies, but at $300 usd each and a lead time of 3 months, I started to look at some websites but had no luck.
I'm planning a cruise for early spring next year basically at Puerto Vallarta and vecinities
Thanks

I have not cruised Mexico but it has been a passing thought for the future. My inlaws just returned from three wks in Cancun. They have been going there for yrs my father-in-law talks to everybody and has been a boater all his life. he talked with a couple of boat owners there and found out that the only way to get charts is from the local harbor masters once you have completed a course and have been certified by them. might be a starting point for you to call the areas that you will be in on your trip. would like to hear what you find out.
Happy and safe cruise.

Downwind Marine is a wonderful source of all kinds of cruising stuff. When we were in Mexico we used these two books most. The first is the actual chart, the second is full of specific local stuff to each area/anchorage.

Go to their website and click on the link to "navigation & books". (I tried posting a direct link but because we are new members to the forum, we are unable to post links.)

Have a great time!

Lori
