2GM Transmission, going forward when engaging into reverse

I have a Yanmar 2GM and lately, not all the time, when I first place the boat in reverse, it goes forward. The next time I try then it goes in reverse.

I check the cable and it everything is fine, must be inside the transmission.

Has anyone ever seen this ? Does this mean I need a new cone ? (I've done some research )

Thanks

It might just mean you need transmission fluid. Always look for the simplest solution to a problem and hope for the best!

This happened to me recently on a Yanmar 3JH2TE and the reason was that the cable was about to snap next to the transmission. If I where you that's where I'd check.
