Pro Furl roller furling

I have a 20 year old Pro Furl roller furling system on my 65' sailiboat. The sail is getting much harder to furl in as I believe the bearings may be going bad. I called Pro Furl and they said they have a rebuild kit and might be able to convert the system to an electric furling. Has anyone done this?

I have a 15-20 year old Profurl on Paloma and used the bearing rebuild kit about two years ago. I understand that there is an electric conversion and I suppose it would be great for a boat the size of yours, but I am suspecioius of anything electrical that might fail in the worst of weather, just when I needed it.

I wouldn't go electric on the furler. There are just too many things that can go wrong with an electric furler. Halyard wraps are easier to ignore with an electric furler, as are other problems, since you're not handling the furling line.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I'm now on my third Pro-furl electric furler in 5 years. Do you think I would recommend it?

Umm... all on the same boat??? You must like having really new equipment on the boat to be replacing them that often...
