Danforth Constellation Pinnacle Compass

Hello. I just joined this site. I have purchased a 27 foot Columbia sailboat. It has a Danforth constellation binnacle compass on it. Problem is the shroud of the compass has several dents in it and I need to take it apart to repair. I can't seem to get the two halfs apart. I have pulled them to where they have separated about a 1/4 inch and that's about as far as it will go. Is there some trick to removing the hood slider. Thanks

Hello again. Just for the record and a possible future search, I was finally able to talk to someone from Danforth Compass. The Danforth pinnacle constellation compass is no longer manufactured. To separate the shroud from the lower section which holds the actual compass, merely pull them apart. Easier said than done in my case but eventually the two halves separated. Once I get the dents out I imagine it will be difficult to push them back together again. Thanks for the feedback I got on this question.

Thanks for the additional post weephee...always good to know what the end result is! If you end up needing professional help with the compass...suggest you email islandcompass.com He is excellent and knows the Daforth Constellation well.
