Trophy Braid vs Regatta Braid

I have used Regatta Braid for a mainsheet and very much liked the 'hand' that it has. I had an ongoing problem with the sheet getting twisted in a 4:1 tackle causing the blocks to get twisted. I could overcome this by very carefully straightening the sheet (towing it behind the boat worked well for this) and releading it. Is this twisting related to the fact that it is single braid?

I am not familiar with Trophy Braid. Does it have similar feel to Regatta Braid? Since it is double braid is twisting likely to be less common?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Killarney—

It is probably more likely due to the block setup... do both of the blocks in your mainsheet setup swivel??? If so, you should LOCK the one on the boom.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

SD is correct - as usual - the problem is not the line. But regarding your question, Regatta Braid and Trophy Braid are constructed differently and do have a differend hand. RB is a single braid (i.e. no core). It does have a softer hand and stays that way if cared for. However, I've found RB to be rather easy to snag because off its rather loose construction.

I use Trophy Braid for the mainsheet in my 16' Rebel. Very comfortable. When I got a Cal 25 this summer the mainsheet was old stiff double braid. I had enough Trophy stashed away to replace the ugly stuff. Easy to grip. I have the dark blue and it does fade from sun but that doesn't seem to affect anything. Splices like any other double braid. May not last as long as smoother double braid but I have had no issues with hockling or wearing yet.. I used some white 1/4" for jib sheets on the Rebel and my only complaint is the white gets dirty easily.
