Mast track tape

Has anyone ever heard of using a product like 3M UHMW Film Tape along the mast to reduce friction and protect the mast from the mainsail sliders? Just had the mast painted and I'm not able to add the track I want for a few months.

Seriously? Nobody has an opinion on this? 3M tape to protect painted aluminium mast.
