When we built our 54'' sloop over the past couple years, a key requirement was ease of sail handling while single-handed. At the recommendation of the boat''s designers, Sparkman and Stephens, we chose an Aerorig.
After a using the
rig for almost a year, we''ve decided that this is not the right
rig for us for offshore use. We are planning to replace the
rig and I''m looking for suggestions on the best way to sell the Aerorig and sails at a greatly reduced price.
The principle problem for us has been that the weight of the
rig and windage make our boat very tender. Also, the
rig is fully hydraulic with in-boom
furling and sail-handling. The
furling has been very finnicky and we don''t feel there''s enough provision for manual backup. I suspect that the
rig would work well for a 45 to 55'' catamaran. The
rig is an Aerorig 300 model, 85'' high and with a sail area of 1280 sq ft. I''m looking to sell it for about half of its original cost.
