fWill Varnish stick to Epoxy?

I checked with the epoxy manufacturers and they recommended polyurethane but had no experience with varnish.I read about varnishing over epoxy on this website. Presumably for UV protection. Is any special prep needed other then a light sanding? I checked with the epoxy manufacturers and they recommended polyurethane but had no experience with varnish.

I epoxied the bottom a companionway hatch board that was starting to de-laminate, the rest of the hatch has 15 coats of Spar Varnish on it.

Varnish works great over epoxy. Assuming it's a fair surface, just a little light sanding (with 200+ grit or a scotch brite pad) and you're good to go.

You've got your answer already.. I was just going to point out that people who build kayaks and other craft using the epoxy saturation (WEST) technique generally apply varnish over it all as a UV barrier to prevent the epoxy from going opaque over time.

Just get a little varnish on the deck and you will find out.
