I have an IP27 with a Yanmar 2GM20. I have a 12 volt Fuel Pump between the Racor and the Mechanical Fuel pump on the side of the engine. The 12 volt Fuel pump has gone bad (runs Continuously) (Stuart Warner $ 235.00). This is the 2nd pump in 5 years(400hrs) that went bad. Could I trash the 12 volt pump and go with a Squeeze bulb? Is this a good idea? Or could I use another pump of some kind? I really only need it to do my filter change right?
We had a 2GM20F and the only pump needed was the one on the Yanmar. That said, my current boat has a Yanmar 2QM20H and it has a fuel pump - a small (and cheap) one. It is a Walbro WEP-12. I have pics if you need them.
Check out the Walbro 2401-1 model. I have blown one in 15 years. They are about $80....

They seem to last for quite some time. Mine is the 5 psi model.
A pressurised fuel system is the way to go. There is an added fire risk but air never leaks in. Fuel leaks out evey now and again, but you see it, and fix it.
electric fuel pump
i have a yanmar 2GM20F also. my electric pump is between the tank & the racor 500 filter. it makes it easy to bleed the filter after changing the element.
Life time fuel pump that you can start when needed and should to be installed between tank and filter...free flow pump...about $60 depends on where your at.
I would question why your pump runs constantly?Actually should not have to.
Unlees i mistaken this is a quick fix for something else..Once upon a time bad lift pump maybe?
You should be able to install a free flow pump between tank and filter and turn it/ not have to turn it on to start/run.
You should turn it on to start..warmup and pop the hatch to make sure your fuel systems good. Also works as a OH SH*T switch when the beast starts failing at the wrong time. Most failings are fuel related me thinks..:D
