Raymarine Chartplotter not reading my C-Maps

Anyone ever have a problem where your chartplotter doesn't load the data from the C-Map chip? The screen on my RL72RC shows either hash-marks or the default map (with no real data on it) that comes with the unit.

Thoughts?

No idea about the problem, but the Raymarine tech support on line is second to none. Worst cast is you have to send it to them to fix.

Have you done the latest firmware updates? That will probably solve your issue pretty handily as they have been upgrading the mapping process regularly now...

You're correct Jody, my E120 didn't read my new NAVIONICS Platinum ... until we updated the SW. In time: such incompatibility didn't show up on Ray site neither NAVIONICS at that time. Take your RL up to latest spec first.

Thanks folks. I will speak to Raymarine. I tend to doubt the firmware compatibility cause as the maps and head-unit, while older, are the same vintage and have been getting along nicely until very recently. I can sometimes influence the symptoms by removing, cleaning and reinstalling the map-chips. This is working with less and less success. I suspect it may be dirty contacts on the buss connectors inside the RL.

One last call out on that specific question, anyone know if or how these internal pick-ups should be cleaned?

You also might want to check to see that nothing has gotten in the little contact holes on the card, especially if it is a CF card, and that nothing is in the card slot. Also check for bent pins in the reader.

Vacuum is usually a good way to clean them. Avoid using canned air, as it can force the foreign matter deeper in to the pins and make the problem worse.
