Red face Windlass Gypsy

I tried to search for an answer, but, did not find, so...........

I know this question will be wide open for an exact answer, but, maybe some actual experiences may help.

Is there a ballpark figure on the life expectancy of an electric windlass gypsy (gipsy), before it needs replaced for wear?

My S/L Sealectric made 36 years before replacement. And the main reason I replaced the whole thing was that the gypsy was somewhat worn and I could not find a replacement.

Are you asking how much wear the gypsy itself can take??? That really depends on what kind of anchor rode you have, and how often you anchor out, and what conditions you set and weigh anchor in.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

What gc1111 say (36 years a long time).

With proper care, I should be able to get 5-10 years.

I did not want to buy something for $300 and then pay $80-100 USD every year to replace the gypsy!

Thanks!
