Hardware through Head Liner

Replacing/adding hardware to the cabin top to lead lines to cockpit. Cabin has integrated/solid head liner. Options: 1) remove liner, install hardware, install new liner; 2) install hardware through liner; or 3) add your own here.

I'd prefer option 1 but concerned about disturbing the structural integrity that the liner provides (I'm assuming it does). Option 2 would certainly be easiest but concerned about how to make sure the hardware is supported from below with the liner in tact. PO attached present hardware by drilling oversized hole in liner and using washers only to back up the hardware to the cabin top. If I were to use a backing plate it seems that the liner would be pulled up creating depressions in those locations.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.
