boom vang on a columbia contender

hey, does anyone out there have a contender with a boom vang? if so, does it work well, for my boom configuration is low to the cabin and it doesn't seem to be enough angle for this to be effective. any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanx,
scott

I have not put a vang on one; but looking at pictures of the way the cabin rises behind the base of the mast makes it look like it's not very feasible to use a traditional vang setup. You might consider doing a preventer setup that will allow a bit of downhaul when running so as you tension the leeward preventer it also helps pull the boom down. Of course the problem with this is dipping the boom in the water if the boat rolls severely; so you would want a loop of thinner line between the preventer block and the deck padeye so it will break away if the boom gets dipped.
