Cowl Vents

We have a 1983 Hunter 34 and would like to replace the cowl vents. Trouble is, in 1983 Hunter used a 5" vent, which nobody seems to make replacements for anymore. All I can find are 3" or 4" vents in PVC. I can find 5" vents in stainless or brass, but for safety''s sake while racing I''d like to stick to PVC. Does anyone have any ideas where I can find 5" PVC vents, or can you suggest how to retrofit one of the new smaller sizes?
Thanks tons for your help,
AnnFer

Ann:

I think you''ll struggle to find PVC 5" cowls. I suspect your choices are to move to a metal cowl or cover the existing surface (dorade box, whatever) with a white plastic material (Starboard or perhaps PVC sheet) and then drill a smaller hole for a 4" cowl. This can be made to look quite nice and would allow you many choices re: cowl products.

Ran across this at the Vetus site:

The plastic which Vetus uses is somewhat hard to keep clean but the 4 15/16" large model seems close to what you''re looking for.
