Sail Care = Awesome

I dropped my main sail off in December and just got it back. WOW, it looks and feels almost brand new, I couldn't believe it!

I had the opportunity to speak with Jerry, the owner, while I was there and found him and everyone there very professional.

We laid out the sail and we went over every square inch of it. I had quite a bit done to the sail and I must say, they really do a stellar job, but it ain't cheap $$$!

FYI: They don't do laminated sails

If you have a sail you think needs to be replaced, consider sending it to them first.

Can you please qualify your definition of "cheap"?....If the cost is greater than 50% of new sails I would have to go new..but thats just me....YMMV.

No, it was less than 50% of what a new sail would cost and I should get another 10 years out of it if I want. My plan is to buy new in a few years and have a good back up main.

The PO of my Pearson had the sails redone by Sailcare the year before i bought it. the boat has the original sails from '87 and they are like new still. they were redone in '05. They do a great job at Sailcare

I had a chance to talk to the Sailcare folks at several shows, and they've got my 120 genoa in the shop right now. Bottom line -- they're very friendly, helpful, and great to work with.

One of the first things they do when they get your sail is to go over it closely and identify any repairs that need to be done. Once that's out of the way, they'll send you a written estimate that specifies both cleaning and estimated repair costs (e.g., replace telltales for $x.xxx, clean 333 ft2 for $xxx.xx, etc.) They told me that if in their view the sail needs to be retired, they'll tell you that up front. They will not proceed with the clean/repair until you tell them OK. You can then make a decision whether or not to go old/new.

Their pricing (for cleaning) is $0.95 per ft2 up to 450 ft2. 451-600 ft2 will run $1.00 per ft2. Over 600 ft2 you'll have to talk to them. Repairs/mods will cost extra (but very reasonable prices.)
