Are you looking for a DC or engine driven refrigeration system? If you're cruising long-term or living aboard, I'd recommend 12 VDC powered refrigeration. Also, how much of the 12 Cu feet did you want to convert to a freezer and what shape is the ice box? Depending on the size and shape of the icebox, you may need a dual plate setup.
I'd also recommend you post photos of the setup when you get a chance.
