Really don't recommend using 5200 as it is far too tenacious an adhesive for something you may have to remove in the future...
IMHO, it really has little place on a boat.
I've heard good things about the butyl tape, but you can also use 3M's 5200 marine adhesive/sealant. It's available at West Marine, Boater's World, Home Depot, etc.
