Swing keel hinge pin

I recently aquired an older Southcoast 22. Would like to inspect the hinge pin for the keel. Southcoast is no longer in business, nor the Southcoast Owners Assoc. active. Need info on how to inspect, or exactly where to cut an opening for inspection. Thanks for any info available.

Cutting it out, or an inspection hole would be a very unique way of accomplishing your task. Make sure you take LOTS OF PICTURES! However if you decide to not ruin your boat, there is plenty of threads that deal with lowering a swing keel, to change/replace your pivot pin. Given the nature of the beast (swing keel) they are all quite similar in steps to removal installation.
