vertical play in rudder stock

While repairing my rudder stop, i have noticed a small amount of shaft play. All vertical not wobbling.. The play is very minimul, and no more than maybe a 1/8" ???? Am I am trouble here or is it ok?? Do I need a quick haul out to look further?? Thanx in advance

Yeah I've experienced that before. I wouldn't worry about it

what kind of rudder? If a skeg or keel hung rudder you might be able to put a small delrin washer under the rudder at the shoe to work as a shim to keep the rudder from lifting and moving.
