Fiberglass damage under stanchions?

I'm pulling up all the stanchions and deck hardware to re-pot (as per mainesail's awesome website) and re-bed. When I pulled up some of the stanchions it "tore off" the top level of the glass and I can actually see some exposed threads. I've checked for rotten core underneath and everything feels fine -- do I cover this with an epoxy filler? What do I need to do?

Help Rain is coming next week and I need this sorted!

From Boat Stuff

Thanks!

This is

Brain,

This is a prime example of why NOT to use a highly adhesive marine sealant.

What has happened is your sealant bonded to the gelcoat stronger than the gelcoat did to the fiberglsss and...... RIP...!!!

Simply fill this with some 3M Premium Marine filler (vinylester) after taping the surrounding areas. When you put it back togetehr use a lower bonding marine sealant like 3M 101 or you can try butyl tape. 4200 and 5200 can both do this Sikaflex 291 may or may not 3M 101 won't.....
