Nonskid replacement

I am restoring a 36' hurricane damaged boat. A 16' x 1' section was reglassed, and we are debating how best to restore the nonskid.

Options include 1) grinding down all existing nonskid to a smooth surface, prime with epoxy, spread nonskid particles, then paint; 2) gelcoat and put purchased/made backing that matches existing pattern, 3) purchase new nonskid overlay and seal to deck.

The above are my order of preference based on people I've talked with and books I've read that dealt with nonskid.

Any experience and thoughts on this would be welcome.

You could sand and then use something like KiwiGrip or DuraBak. Both are "paint-on" non-skid coatings. However, if you do this, you should probably re-do the non-skid on the entire boat to match... it'll look funny otherwise.
