Making a whisker/spinnaker pole?

I can get a boom from a Hobie 16 and/or a mast from a Sunfish for free. The boom dimensions are 9'2" x 3" while the mast is 9'6" x 1.75". Would it be possible or is it worth it to make either of these into a whisker or spinnaker pole for my 25' Helms sloop?

Obviously neither would be telescoping so storage on deck could be a problem. But I was thinking that I might be able to attach end fittings for a reasonable cost and have an inexpensive pole for winging out my genoa or possibly flying my spinnaker.

Any thoughts?

A 50mm OD with a 2mm wall thickness would be the minimum recommended size and thickness for a 25' boat like a Catalina 25 or Helms 25. 60mm & 70mm OD allow for a safety factor and the wall thickness should be somewhere around 2.5mm. A Catalina pole is around 10.5' using the J dimension.

If you are going to build a pole from the extrusions you mention, make sure pole ends are available for the ID of those extrusions.
