You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

NightOwl...To be clear...we haven't moved away!! We are friends who visit both sites. The second one was necessary to be able to do some things we could not do here.

While I personally will not buy anything from Sailnet, for reasons I've explained elsewhere...I think it is just rude to advertise for people on this site to buy from another site. How would you like it if someone came into your store and chatted up the customers to band together to get a great deal down the street?

I agree with Sailing Dog... doesn't feel that cool unless you give Sailnet the same opportunity...

I agree. I'd rather buy from Sailnet instead of anywhere else.

The best minds discuss sailing (and a little bit of politics). I don't know why. It's a mystery!

I've seen the reviews, this product is a great all purpose / safety item. I know on "HG" I rely on the Icom command system - but there have been times I wished I had something reliable, dunkable anywhere and for a "its crap scenario" - this handheld beats everything. Since the Admins of Sailnet are listening to the threads a bit attentively now... never been a customer, (appreciate the forums) - how about a $149 Sailnet deal on this with shipping less than $10 bucks or free ( Say min 20 inquiries).

Call it the Sailnet Safety stimulus package

Jody...you have a distorted idea of the gross profit in marine electronics for the retailer. 10%-15% is the norm. I am positive $149 would be below cost.

You obviously do not watch the commercials for "Name your price" (that star trek guy)..

BTW a a search on last year(s) version is 139 from the manufacturer. The GPS upgrade is realistically a $10 upgrade.. so the price asking for for group discount is not absurd...

I think it is just as rude to come into a "store" and say I wouldn't "buy anything from Sailnet."

It's a moral compass thing. Pot calling the kettle black!

Well...at least MY decision has a moral grounding that has been well explained. This thread is about saving a few bucks somewhere else. If you have a problem undersatanding the difference between walking into a store and saying..."what you have done means I will no longer buy anything from you" and "hey guys...I can save you $10 bucks down the block" then it is YOUR compass which has some deviation.
