Painting the waterline stripe

After applying the barrier coat and pottom paint, I want to repaint the
waterline stripe and have a few questions.

1.) What paint works best for a waterline stripe in the mid-atlantic coastal
region?

The waterline stripe is actually Navy gelcoat on the Alradee. The repaint
(after the battle with the old bottom paint is over) will be a white barrier
coat (Interluxe 2000/1), and black self-ablating bottom paint (BWM). I wanted to apply a red gloss waterline stripe.

2.) Also, do I paint the barrier coat to the top of the waterline stripe and
paint over it or to the bottom of it and paint up to it?

I can answer question 1

I painted the waterline last year using interlux brightside paint. There are quite a few colors to choose from. If you do not want to paint you can use stripping tape which i have only seen at west marine.

Don't carry the barrier coat over the boottop. First it is a waste of the material, second it sets up like orange peel and a gloss paint wont look good on top of a rough surface. Getting good red floss finish is a bit of a challenge, think twice about sticking with the blue gelcoat.

Interlux recommends 1. Brightside 2.Perfection 3.Toplac for boottops. Depending on the boat, eliminating the boottop can look very nice as well.
