Navico DW-200

I am atempting to resurrect an old Navico DW-200 wind system. Can anyone tell me if the length of the wire between the masthead unit and the display is calibrated in any way? To put it another way, can I whack out about 6" of wire around a bad deck connector and re-connect without messing up the display?
