I suppose I could throw them into the cockpit, but I was thinking I might get better coverage by putting them up on the spreaders.

The only downside I could see is that the speakers end up being 30-40' away from the cockpit and would likely need a bit stronger source to push them to get them with a reasonable volume.

I echo what the others were mentioning about disturbing your neighbours and I guarantee that if you were berthed next to me I'd be up in the bos'n's chair snipping your wires before 24 hours had gone by.

I'm not sure if you have stern seats on your boat but the PO mounted a set of WM speakers under the stern seats on mine. Seems to work well and keeps the weather off the speakers at the dock. The stereo is wired so I can use the fade control to adjust the volume above and below separately. If you end up doing a stereo upgrade along with the speakers think about a wired remote at the wheel.
