DIY Boatyard in SC
 

Hi,

I am in Charleston SC for the time being and I am looking for a good DIY boatyard to do a bottom job at. So far, I have not had any luck. I found one place but I discovered they want a waiver signed releasing them from all liability when hauling and moving the boat. I am certainly not going to do that. All the other places I have checked in the area do not allow do it yourself an want an unusually high price for only one coat of paint. Any leads would be appreciated.

I think Ross Marine lets you do your own work. They are just a few miles south of Charleston on the ICW.

Thanks to all those who replied. Ross also informed me that they did not allow DIY. I checked with Rockville and they want over 100 bucks a day to be in the work area for DIY and if you do any sanding any boats near yours must be washed daily by you to the yards satisfaction. They did not really come across as wanting DIY.

SC is one of the worst states (or best depending on your point of view) for legislation regarding pollution and boatyards. Hence very few DIY yards.

I can give a reference for Pierside... we spent almost three weeks there. The owner is a great guy and they definitely let you DIY. They also do a lot of paintwork there, so if you forget your own stuff you can buy what you need from them.
