Standard Horizon SL45 Speed guage

Im new to the community, but here is my cry for help!
Im devastated!! - my Standard Horizon SL45 Digital Speed Log has given up the ghost (broken down)- can you believe it... only after 19 years use!.

I'm wondering if anyone has the ability or knows anyone that can repair them or if any one knows how to get hold of second hand ones (do they scrap boats and remove the equipment?) Ive already checked ebay/Craigs List etc for a year now and done many frequent internet searches with no luck - only saw one that sold in early 08 in Australia! brand new in box! :-(

I just tried to contact Tim Johnson by email from a post from last year that said that he may be able to help with repair -I think he worked/works for Standard Horizon.

Tim Johnson does indeed work for Standard Horizon and has given me excellent service for my 1992 DN45 depth finder. If he says he'll try to help you can believe him.

Standard Horizon will repair their equipment. Here's the language on the SL45 from their website.

"Standard Horizon digital instruments are supported against defects in parts and workmanship, for as long as you own them! We call it out Lifetime Flat Rate Service Program. As long as Standard Horizon instruments are maintained in reasonable condition by the original owner and show no evidence of physical abuse, neglect or intentional damage, Standard Horizon will repair them to original factory specifications for a fixed amount established on the date of purchase. "

Hi pippill,

After two months, this may be a moot point, but I just removed my SL45 and DS45 instruments and transducers in favor of a new Raymarine unit.
They are available to you or anyone else that could use them for the cost of shipping. The original paddlewheel in my speed transducer is broken, but I did find a replacement and the depth transducer came out of the boat a little worse for the wear (portions of the mushroom head flange broken), but the instruments should still be in operating condition.

Not sure what to say for the instruments, I'm on my 2nd or 3rd set in 20 yrs or so. But I will say that Tim is one of those guys that single handedly make a company. He has been there a long time and SEA Quest has been a lot better off for it during those years. Standard Horizon is very fortunate to have Tim on their end of the phone.
